Does Communication Help?

Good grammar could help a person get a job over someone else. Today’s job employers need more than a person who can do the job proficiently but also someone who is efficient in good grammar and writing. A person being able to show that he or she has good grammar and writing will give the employer a general idea of how he or she may act. With good grammar and writing a person will be able to communicate as a professional in any environment.

Grammar is important because it shows a person’s intelligence, how organized a person may be, and if that person can master tasks at work. To have good grammar when speaking it is best to avoid awkward pauses or using words like “um or uh”. Pay close attention when listeningto another person. Susan Adams say “Good grammar and clear sentences suggest respect” (Adams).  Kyle Weins says “It’s best to keep grammar rules in mind and try to abide by them, when writing and speaking” (Weins). Language is always changing but good grammar is credibility, people will judge a person if the person cannot distinguish the difference between their, there, and they’re.  Weins also says “I’ve found that people who make fewer mistakes on a grammar test also make fewer mistakes when they are doing something completely unrelated to writing — like stocking shelves or labeling parts”. Good grammar and good writing comes from a lot of details and effort.

A lawyer will need to obtain a doctorial or professional degree, the communication skills I assume I will need in order to be qualify is interpersonal skills, speaking skills, and writing skills. The types of communication skills I will need to become a lawyer are analytical, interpersonal, problem-solving, research, speaking, and writing skills. I will be reading documents, wills, court notes, statement, lawsuits, contracts, deeds, etc. The communication media and specialized equipment I will need to use is computers, internet, social media sites if needed, and software. The types of software I will need to know well is Google, Microsoft office, Excel, PowerPoint, Podcast, OneNote, InfoPath, etc. Specific writing will be required

because when I will be preparing documents, such as wills, trusts, and powers of attorney. Attorneys, paralegals, the judge and sometimes the arbitrators will read the statement or notes I will write. I will need good grammar and editing skills because a lawyer is supposed to represent their client, communicate with their client and others, research and analyze problems, present facts verbally and in writing, and prepare and file legal documents. I will need good speaking and listening skills because I will have to speak on the behalf of the client. To be able to speak on my client behalf I need to listen and understand what they have been through and then clearly present and explain the case to the court.

Throughout my professional and academic career I will need strengths as a reader, a researcher, a speaker, a listener, a writer, a proofreader, an editor as user of communication media. From those skills I will need to most strength in being a researcher, a speaker, and a listener to become a successful lawyer. To improve my listening skills I will need to pay attention more when someone is speaking and write down notes so I won’t forget important details. I also can use a recorder and record conversation so I can replay the conversation and pick out key information. To strengthen my speaking skills I need to practice speaking in front of groups of people, participate more in class discussions, learn how to project my voice and sound

like I know what I am talking about. To work on my researching skills I will need to start looking up small topic every day and then gradually over time research a big topic and present it to a group of people. Another way to improve my researching skills is to take a class where you

do a lot of research. By strengthening those three skills and continuing to work on my other skills I will become a successful lawyer.

With good grammar and writing a person will be able to communicate as a professional in any environment. Good grammar can show how intelligent a person is, show off a person skills, and get a person a job verse someone else. A lot of details shows good grammar and it also demands that person should have more respect. Everyone should want to improve their skills especially grammar. By a person improving all their skills they will have success in communicating as a professional.
